For fifteen years, Portland photographer Bianca Benson has been capturing life around her through her lens.
Bianca's beginnings were as staff photographer for a daily newspaper in Eastern Washington at 16 years of age. She gained respect as she took on the newspaper editor title at Big Bend Community College while still attending high school.
After enrolling in the Communications Program at Eastern Washington University, Bianca Benson was encouraged as she discovered her love of the darkroom and appreciation for printing techniques. She soon began shooting commercial work and developed the fundamental skills of medium format film cameras. During this time Bianca recognized the need to gain experience in the digital discipline and began her relationship with Photoshop in 1994, which she now considers a long-time friend.
Bianca follows in the footsteps of accomplished close relatives; maternal grandmother Joan Emerson owned and operated Emerson Photography Studio in Wenatchee, Washington, along with her grandfather, Edwin Emerson who was a World War II photographer and went on to be a Pressman owner/operator of several print shops. Her paternal grandfather, Dick Carroll of Ridgefield, Washington is also an accomplished amateur photographer.
As Bianca’s talents increased, she began shooting professionally and currently estimates her total number of portraits at well over 200,000. Not everyone enjoys having their picture taken and one of the most satisfying aspects of her professional work is when her portrait customers tell her that the images she took of them are the best they have ever seen, and how they love their collection.
Each image submitted to her stock agent, produced for her clients, sold at galleries, or published in magazines is expertly perfected digitally by Bianca Benson. Her goals are to shoot well into old age, travel to Antarctica and to have a book published.
